About the Journal of Public Health International

The Journal of Public Health International (JPHI) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal of research on the health of populations. It covers all of public health, with epidemiology as a core area, and has been published by Open Access Pub since 2017.

Purpose and readership

Evidence for the health of populations

JPHI serves researchers, public-health practitioners, policymakers and educators who need sound evidence on how health is distributed in populations and how it can be protected and improved.

JPHI publishes research that describes, explains and improves the health of populations. The journal covers all of public health, with epidemiology as a core area, and considers work from local, national, regional and multi-country settings in every region of the world.

Its aims are to publish methodologically sound research that informs public-health practice and policy, to advance the methods of epidemiology, surveillance and evaluation on which that research depends, and to make the results freely available to everyone who can use them.

The journal welcomes contributions from the disciplines that inform public health, including biostatistics, the social and behavioral sciences, environmental and occupational health, health economics, health policy and health services research. The Aims and Scope page describes the scope, study designs and eligibility in full.

Editorial responsibility

The Editor-in-Chief leads the journal's editorial direction and oversees its decisions, supported by an international editorial board of public-health researchers who handle manuscripts within their expertise and advise on the journal's scope and policies.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. They are independent of the article processing charge and of any fee-relief inquiry. Editors with a conflict of interest are recused from handling the manuscript.

Peer review

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. The full process is set out in the Editorial Policies.
