Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to special issues undergo the same rigorous peer review as regular submissions. Select the appropriate special issue from available options during online submission or indicate the special issue title in your cover letter. Submissions should align with the announced scope and contribute meaningfully to the collections thematic coverage.

  • Select target special issue during submission
  • Follow standard JSN author guidelines
  • Include scope alignment statement in cover letter
  • Reference invitation from guest editors if applicable
  • Adhere to special issue submission deadline

Review Process

Special issue submissions receive initial scope assessment by guest editors before proceeding to external peer review. Accepted manuscripts are published online upon completion of production, with assignment to the special issue collection. Articles appear individually as finalized, building the collection progressively.

Standard APCs apply with all fellowship membership discounts remaining valid. Waivers available for eligible researchers from low and middle-income countries based on Research4Life classifications.

Open Submissions: Many JSN special issues welcome unsolicited submissions. Check current announcements for topics accepting open submissions and relevant deadlines for spine and neuroscience collections.

Review Process

Special issue manuscripts undergo the same rigorous double-blind peer review as regular submissions. Guest editors provide initial scope assessment before external reviewers evaluate scientific and clinical merit independently. This ensures consistent quality standards across all published spine and neuroscience research.

Accepted manuscripts are published online upon production completion and assigned to the special issue collection. Articles appear individually as finalized, building the collection progressively rather than waiting for simultaneous release to accelerate dissemination.
