Editorial Policies

Ethical standards governing CNS cancer research publication at JBSC.

Commitment to Research Integrity

JBSC maintains rigorous ethical standards aligned with COPE guidelines. These policies ensure integrity, transparency, and fairness throughout the publication process.

Peer Review

All research manuscripts undergo rigorous peer review by qualified neuro-oncology experts. Reviewers are selected based on expertise and absence of conflicts. JBSC uses single-blind review. Decisions are based solely on scientific merit.

Research Ethics

Animal Research

Studies using animals require institutional ethics approval with compliance with relevant guidelines.

Human Subjects

Research involving patients requires ethics approval and informed consent documentation.

Data Integrity

Authors are responsible for accuracy of all data. Fabrication and falsification constitute misconduct.

Authorship

All authors must meet ICMJE criteria: substantial contributions to conception or design, drafting or revising, final approval, and accountability. Gift authorship and ghost authorship are prohibited.

Conflicts of Interest

Disclosure Required: All authors must disclose financial or personal relationships that could influence research including device company funding and consulting relationships.

Misconduct Handling

Allegations are investigated following COPE flowcharts. Responses may include rejection, retraction, or institutional notification.

Appeals Process

Authors may appeal rejection decisions within 30 days with detailed justification. Editor-in-Chief reviews appeals within 4-6 weeks.

Corrections and Retractions

Errors discovered after publication should be reported promptly. Corrections are published as appropriate following COPE guidelines.

Decision Timeline

JBSC aims for initial decisions within 4-6 weeks. Complex reviews may require additional time. Authors receive status updates.

Transparency

JBSC operates transparently, publishing editorial policies and review approaches publicly. We welcome questions about processes.

Reviewer Selection

Editors select reviewers based on expertise, availability, and absence of conflicts. Author suggestions may be consulted. We aim for reviewer diversity across institutions.

Data Availability

Authors must provide Data Availability Statements. Repository deposition is encouraged. Restrictions due to privacy should be explained clearly.

Supplementary Materials

Extended datasets, imaging series, and protocols can be submitted as supplementary materials undergoing peer review with permanent DOIs.

Reproducibility Standards

JBSC encourages sufficient methodological detail for replication. Key reagents, protocols, and methods should be described clearly enabling independent verification by readers.

Post-Publication Review

Published articles may receive post-publication comments addressing methodology or interpretation. JBSC investigates concerns following guidelines and publishes responses when warranted.

Preregistration

Authors conducting confirmatory studies may preregister hypotheses and methods demonstrating commitment to rigorous and transparent research practices.

Clinical Trial Registration

Prospective clinical studies must be registered in ICMJE-approved registries before enrollment with registration number prominently in abstract for verification.

Ethical Review

Human and animal studies require appropriate ethics committee approval documented in methods section.

Funding Disclosure

All funding sources must be disclosed including institutional support, grants, and industry sponsorship.
