Editorial Policies

Upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity in genetic engineering publishing

Commitment to Ethical Excellence

JGE is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and scientific integrity. Our editorial policies ensure that published research meets rigorous quality standards, adheres to ethical guidelines, and contributes meaningfully to genetic engineering advancement. We follow COPE recommendations and international best practices.

Core Principles

Scientific Rigor

Rigorous peer review evaluating methodology, data quality, and statistical validity

Impartiality

Decisions based solely on scientific merit without regard to author characteristics

Transparency

Clear communication regarding processes, decisions, and any concerns

Confidentiality

Unpublished manuscripts and reviewer identities treated as confidential

Peer Review

JGE employs double-blind peer review. Manuscripts are first evaluated for scope and quality, then assigned to associate editors who coordinate review by expert referees. We aim for initial decisions within 21 days. Reviewers evaluate scientific validity, originality, clarity, and significance to genetic engineering.

Research Integrity

Originality: Manuscripts must represent original work not previously published. JGE employs plagiarism detection software on all submissions.

Data Integrity: Authors must ensure accuracy of all presented data. Fabrication or falsification constitutes misconduct and will result in rejection or retraction.

Biosafety: Research involving genetic modification must comply with relevant biosafety regulations. Include institutional approval numbers and describe containment measures.

Misconduct: JGE takes all allegations seriously. We follow COPE guidelines for investigation, which may include correspondence with authors, institutional notification, corrections, or retractions.

Conflicts of Interest

All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any interests that could influence scientific judgment. Authors should declare funding sources and financial relationships. Failure to disclose conflicts may result in rejection or retraction.

Appeals: Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting detailed responses addressing reviewer concerns. Appeals are evaluated by senior editors not involved in the original decision.

Compliance and Enforcement

JGE takes all ethical concerns seriously and investigates allegations following COPE guidelines. Investigations may involve correspondence with authors, institutional notification, independent expert review, and appropriate remedial actions. We are committed to maintaining scientific integrity while ensuring fair process for all parties.

Authors, reviewers, and readers may report concerns confidentially to the editorial office. Anonymous reports are accepted but may limit investigation depth. We protect whistleblower confidentiality while conducting thorough investigations of reported issues.

Authorship Guidelines

JGE follows ICMJE criteria for authorship. All listed authors must have made substantial contributions to conception, design, data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation. Authors must have drafted the work or revised it critically for important intellectual content. All authors must approve the final version and agree to accountability for all aspects of the work.

Contributors not meeting authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section. Ghost authorship, gift authorship, and guest authorship are forms of misconduct. Changes to authorship after submission require written agreement from all authors and editor approval.

Duplicate Submission Prevention

Authors must confirm that submitted work is not under consideration elsewhere and has not been previously published. Submitting the same work to multiple journals simultaneously wastes editorial and reviewer resources. Prior publication in preprint servers is permitted and does not constitute prior publication for JGE purposes.

Image and Data Integrity

Images must accurately represent original data without inappropriate manipulation. Acceptable adjustments include brightness, contrast, and color balance applied uniformly to the entire image. Splicing images from different sources, selective feature removal, or other manipulations that misrepresent data constitute misconduct.

JGE upholds the highest standards of publication ethics and scientific integrity. Our policies ensure fair, rigorous evaluation of all submissions while supporting authors through constructive feedback regardless of outcome. We are committed to transparent processes, confidential handling of manuscripts and reviewer identities, and prompt investigation of any ethical concerns. These principles guide our efforts to advance genetic engineering scholarship responsibly and sustainably.

These policies reflect our commitment to ethical excellence in genetic engineering publishing. We continuously review and update our practices in accordance with evolving international standards and COPE recommendations to maintain leadership in responsible scholarly communication.
